Operation: Eat As Civilized People

I don't think I've explained our current situation:  We are in Norfolk for three months.  Finding housing for a mere three months shrinks the options significantly.  Add an 82-lb. dog to the equation, and all the darling furnished places on the beach which would normally be way out of our budget, but since it's winter, we could totally afford evaporate from the options.

So here we are, most everything packed into a Pack Rat (same idea as a POD).  And we brought the bare bones:  A couch, a bed, bedside tables, two rugs, kitchen necessities, clothes (stacked on plastic shelves in the second bedroom), and a kitchen table.

Notice:  a kitchen table.  Not chairs.  In DC, we had a lovely balcony that we ate on every night.  If it was hot, we just turned on the fan, and it was fabulous.  Let's take a look back, shall we?

Aaaugh... so lovely.  But those iron chairs are so heavy, and there's no way they would have fit in our trailer.  So we have been eating every meal either standing in the kitchen or on the couch.  Ew.

About 8 years ago, Mr. F. dug a table out of the dumpster.  Which is what we have now.  All we needed were two chairs.  So after hunting on Craigslist and thrift stores.  We found two for $15.  We sanded 'em down (well, Mr. F. did most of that part).

Painted.  And now, we have a legit place to eat.  Hallelujah!

P.S.  They say if you put tomatoes in the fridge they get mealy.  You see where I keep mine.  Where do you keep yours?

  1. Those look GREAT! You did awesome! Those TDA's can be rough- but such adventure, too!! I didn't know you were in Norfolk. J was just there on business. WE have friends there, if you'd like me to introduce you!

I keep my tomatoes on the kitchen counter, too! My mom refuses to believe me in this regard. :)

  2. I also am a big fan of freecycle--you can look up your local listings. I was looking for stuff and now that we're settling into a house and getting real stuff it's been an easy and convenient way to get rid of stuff too.
